Get Into Your Flow All The Time
Your Mind and Your Field of Action
“You really don’t have a sacred space, a rescue land, until you find somewhere to be that’s not a wasteland, some field of action where there is a spring of ambrosia—a joy that comes from inside” —Joseph Campbell
Your state of flow depends on your mind.
The actual flow you seek is really your soul’s radiance trying to come through you. Flow really means the flow of universal creativity coming through your unique expression. That’s why everybody loves the flow state that’s talked about so much— because it’s uniquely yours. It’s the flow of your creative soul and so you love it. But ask yourself— what are you creating?
A lot of people have a soul’s calling to create something to leave on the earth after they’re gone. Something more than just passing the time or relaxing. Some people have a calling, to create something in line with their destiny. Some people want to leave something that impacts others after they’re gone— a book, or a foundation or a body of work. Most of the time when you approach something like this there’s great push back or as Steven Pressfield calls it in The War of Art, “resistance.”
That’s the confusing part. You say to yourself— I get inspired when I think of making this art, writing this book, creating this company, but when I go to do it, I get stuck, blocked, stopped. Why? In between the flow of the soul and your experience of the world is… The Mind.
We hear it all the time— Mind over matter, it’s all in your mind. Well, that’s true too, but so few people even understand what the mind really is. It’s an interesting word, isn’t it? Mind your own business. Do you mind if I do this? Mind your manners. I’ve made up my mind. You can do anything you put your mind to. The indications are all there in the word itself and its expressions.
The mind is a projector.
A projector of what? Your human mind is a projector of the light of your soul. And this is done through your thoughts. The One Flow is conscious creation, constantly flowing… and YOU are its unique expression. You are one focal point of infinity.
All of our experience in the world is preceded by our mind and our thoughts. If I can just apply my mind, with my will power, then I can have the experience I want, right? So why doesn’t it work that way then?
You become what you think about the most.
Whatever thoughts you focus on you then experience in the world. This is the problem. There’s a lot of thoughts. A lot of thoughts.
Every blink of your eyes, your mind downloads 1000 thoughts from the universal mind. The problem is that most thoughts will distract you away from the flow like a shiny fishing lure. You see the shiny thought and that hooks you. You take the bait and soon you’re being pulled away from the flow of soul. Instead of creating from the soul you go into some drama or commotion. It sweeps you away from the things you need to do on the path of your destiny.
Let’s say you get angry at someone. Then you spend the rest of the day talking to your friends telling them all about the “incident,” replaying every moment from your perspective. Making your case and proving to yourself why you were right.
Think about how much energy that takes and how that energy could’ve been applied to your craft, your real creative calling. Instead, you’re swept away by emotion and the drama becomes so real and so important.
What’s worse is you love it because you created that too. You gave birth to it. The One Flow is all just a creative flow. You can create drama and suffering or you can create great works to leave behind. In the long run, the drama drains your energy while the creative flow of the soul adds energy and radiance to your field.
The Subconscious Mind is a hidden storehouse of thought forms.
The thousands of unprocessed thoughts get stored in that hidden place called the subconscious mind. The conscious mind is just the tip of the iceberg. The subconscious mind is that vast, dangerous part of the iceberg hidden beneath the surface. And just like The Titanic, many people get sunk by it.
All those unprocessed thoughts in the subconscious cluster together to create this big magnet. These are called subconscious thought forms— because they organize into forms like gangs down there. This is what most people don’t understand— the subconscious mind is very much alive, like a gang of ghosts that haunts you. They bully you and do annoying things to block you— all outside your conscious awareness. That’s what’s so frustrating.
It’s the subsconscious mind that stands between you and your flow
That subconscious gang of magnetic thoughts creates the resistance, the blocks, the stoppages. Whenever you try to create something important it’s the subconscious mind and its magnetic gangs of thought forms that keep you looped in distraction, separated from your soul’s flow.
Whenever you do something on your destiny path you will learn through the experience of going for it. Like climbing Mount Everest or running a marathon, you push through the resistance. It becomes an achievement of applying your grit, discipline, focus and willpower. You put the energy in up front and then there’s a satisfying achievement. It will evolve you. Your soul will flow and you will develop for the better. All that effort in experience will leave you with your soul’s radiance, a form of wisdom that’s held in your energy body called the radiant body.
If you get into the flow of the soul then the subconscious gangs get rounded up and thrown in jail and executed. That’s why the subconscious mind invites you into the nonsense.
The subconscious mind is very tricky.
That’s why it’s so easy to become distracted from our true path. It seems easier than climbing the mountain, but it’s not. You get energized by creating from the flow of the soul. You get de-energized by drama and commotion and nonsense. One gives energy back in the form of radiance and the other drains your energy. Just look at someone who has achieved a body of important work. They are usually radiant, like a star. Their radiant body is strong and bright.
There are two ways to get into the flow of the soul:
One is meditation and…
The other is some field of action.
A field of action is some craft like writing, or painting or creating a business. A field of action is usually one thing you enjoy. When you do it it brings you joy. It’s your calling and it can be anything. One way to find your field of action is to remember what you loved to do as a child. It comes out as play before we’re taught not to play in life. A field of action will make the mind one pointed and it may even feel like play. Done correctly this will burn out the pain of life with the flow of the soul. Find your field of action. That’s a way into the flow.
When she was a little girl, my wife Jamila used to create little stores where she would sell things. She’d round up her parent’s shoes and other items and sell them back to them. Being a hustler from The Bronx myself, this is probably one of the things that attracted me to her. ha ha. Later on she became an accomplished artist and created several businesses selling practical products like yoga mats, clothing, wallets and passport covers featuring her unique art.
The absolute best way to create a flowing mind is both—
When you have a regular meditation practice, it cleans the subconscious mind. Then you also have some craft, a field of action in which you’re engaged in creating something enjoyable. The meditation clears the path so when you sit down to the creative work you can focus the mind with less distraction. The field of action becomes easier to get into because the mind is lighter from the meditation.
Some people just don’t want to meditate and that’s fine.
The other way is just to do the craft itself. You sit down every day with great discipline to do the craft no matter what. You create the habit and let that lead to a body of work.
However, these days there’s so much information coming at us, stimulating our mind and our subconscious. All these devices distracting us. With that happening, meditation is almost a requirement for clear, concentrated creative work.
Either way, the important thing is finding your rhythm and staying in the flow.

I love this. and thanks for the shout out haha! yes the only thing that matters is what we do now
